The Financial Capability Program is designed to help our residents strengthen their financial knowledge, develop practical money management skills and take steps to achieving long-term stability.

  • Financial Coaching

    Participants will receive 1 to 1 coaching from financial experts. In 4 sessions they will a create household budget, review credit reports to resolve issues, and open savings account.

  • Group Workshops

    These sessions will cover banking and savings skills. Identify scams and safe banking best practices, debt management, understand credit and how to improve your credit score, consumer rights and techniques for effective self-advocacy.

  • Matched Savings Program

    HRI’s Matched Savings Program. With a savings goal of $1,000 to be reached within 6-8 months. HRI will match participant savings 2:1. With a total of $2,000 in saving funds!

Financial Coaching

Program participants will attend 4, hour-long one-on-one sessions with a financial coach over an 8-week period. In partnership with the Cambridge Economic Opportunity Commission(CEOC) coaching sessions will support participants to address the following:

  1. Create household budget

  2. Review credit report & identify credit score

  3. One or more of the following:

    • Open a savings/checking account

    • Make a plan to repay debt(s)and/ or resolve outstanding credit issue

    • Other program approved financial goal(s)

Group Workshops

During the course of the 8 week program, participants are also required to attend 4 hours of group financial capability workshops. These sessions will cover:

  1. Banking and savings tools

  2. Scams and safe banking best practices.

  3. Debt management and best practices.

  4. Understanding credit and how to improve your credit score.

  5. Consumer rights and techniques for effective self-advocacy.

Upon successful completion of coaching and group sessions, interested program participants will graduate and may apply to the next phase of the program, the accelerated IDA.

Matched Savings Program

After successful completion of all financial coaching and group workshops, participants are eligible for HRI’s match savings program!

In partnership with The Midas Collaborative, eligible program participants will open a dedicated savings account with a savings goal of $1,000 to be reached within 6-8 months. Once reached HRI will match participant savings at a 2:1 rate with a total of $2,000 in funds. Participants may only receive match funds upon completion of the $1,000 savings goal.

Participants may use funds from this matched savings account to purchase a qualified asset. Examples include: a car purchase, college or educational costs, large appliances, addressing debt or credit issue, or other high-cost purchases.
